Tulum / Coba

Río Lagartos (National Park) and San Felipe (National Park)

Its name comes from Spanish explorers looking for a freshwater river and entering the mangroves they realized there were many lizards (largatos), so they called it Rio Lagartos, declared National Park of Rio Lagartos.

The National Park of San Felipe has a large expanse of mangrove forests, the perfect habitat form many different animal species as well as different types of nesting sea turtles; main sites for mating and nesting of the pink Caribbean flamenco and refuge for more than 30000 different species of birds makes it a National Biosphere Reserve.
